UN representatives have outlined key points of a framework program for Belarus for 2026-2030, UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus Rasul Baghirov said in Brest,
BelTA has learned.
“Belarus (we are very proud of this) ranks 30th among 166 countries [in achieving Sustainable Development Goals]. Despite the sanctions, Belarus is pressing forward,” said Rasul Baghirov. He drew attention to the fact that Belarus has already achieved certain SDGs. Others are expected to be hit by 2030.
The UN representatives outlined key points of a framework program for the next five years. “This year we have embarked on a dialogue with the government. This program will not be implemented in a vacuum, it is aligned with the priorities, goals and objectives set by the state. This program will be a kind of agreement between the government and the UN system. We have previously developed and proposed four priorities to the state,” the UN resident coordinator in Belarus remarked.
These priorities concern human development and well-being for all, inclusion, environment and climate, as well as peace. “This is the cornerstone of development. Because peace is crucial for everything. This is a new thing in our approach and this will be laid down in the program for the next five years. We will dedicate some of our activities to promoting peace,” Rasul Baghirov noted.
Representatives of international organizations - the UN, UNDP, WHO - are visiting Brest Oblast on 24-25 February. The delegation is accompanied by the national coordinator for achieving sustainable development goals, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic Sergei Khomenko, Chairman of the Brest Oblast Council of Deputies, member of the Council of the Republic Igor Brilevich.
